Take a Break and Smell the Flowers
Take a Break and Smell the Flowers' is Kuitunen's third solo exhibition. This time, the exhibition showcases flowers in all their splendor. The flower theme intertwines with ceramics, featuring sailors' tattoos, the delicacy of Chinese porcelain from the 17th century, the talking flowers of Alice in Wonderland, the nostalgia of an old lightbox in a Spanish café, and the 1960s Flower Power movement.
In Kuitunen's artworks, flowers are visible in the surfaces of reliefs and as three-dimensional sculptures. Ceramic sausages dress up as flowers and transform into strawberries. Text intertwines for the first time as part of the artwork, like a colorful flower garland.
Flowers are not just beautiful ornaments; they carry profound symbolism. The symbolism of flowers reflects anti-war sentiments and love – for example, red roses are renowned as symbols of love in many cultures. Flowers also symbolize the cycle of life, birth, growth, flourishing, and death. They can be seen as a metaphor for the cycle of human life
Through the exhibition, I want to bring joy – here, flowers are not just flowers but symbols of radical joy.
